Watering Frequency Chart by Plant and Container Type
Frequency matters less than checking soil moisture directly, but these ranges are a reasonable starting default for average conditions, then adjust for your specific soil, sun exposure, and weather rather than following a fixed schedule blindly.

Notes
- 'Deep' watering means soaking to at least 6-8 inches of soil depth, which encourages deeper, more drought-resilient roots than frequent shallow watering.
- Containers dry out faster than ground soil because they have less volume and more exposed surface for evaporation, which is why they need much more frequent watering.
- The finger test — inserting a finger 1-2 inches into soil — beats any fixed schedule for deciding whether to water today.
