About Home & Garden Answers
A reference site for people doing the work themselves — built around instant answers, and backed by explanations you can check.

Why this site exists
Almost every home and garden question has a numeric answer buried inside it. How much paint, how deep the mulch, how far apart the seedlings, how many bags of concrete, how many weeks before the last frost. Finding that number online usually means scrolling past a life story, three adverts, and a recipe for the same answer you were looking for.
Home & Garden Answers is organised the other way round. The answer comes first, as a working calculator or a short factual statement. The explanation comes underneath, for the people who want to understand why the number is what it is — because on a real job, understanding the assumption is what stops you buying the wrong thing.
How the tools are built
Every calculator on this site is a small, transparent model. We publish the formula, the coverage rates, and the waste allowances each tool uses, and we say plainly where a figure is an industry convention rather than a physical constant. Nothing is hidden behind a black box, and nothing requires an account.
- Coverage and yield figures come from published manufacturer data across several major brands, and we use a conservative middle value rather than a best case.
- Horticultural figures — spacing, hardiness, frost timing, watering — come from university extension services and national horticultural bodies.
- Cost ranges are ranges, not predictions. Local labour rates and material availability move them more than anything we can model.
How the writing works
Guides, articles, and facts are written and reviewed by hand. When a claim is contested — and a surprising number of gardening claims are — we say so and explain what the evidence actually supports. When we get something wrong and a reader tells us, we correct the page and note the change.
Our full approach is set out in our editorial standards.
How the site is funded
The site is free and supported by advertising. Adverts are clearly labelled, kept out of the main answer area, and never dressed up as editorial content. No advertiser sees or influences a guide before it is published, and no tool result changes based on who is advertising.
