Wall & Ceiling
Plasterboard (Drywall)
A gypsum core sandwiched between paper facings, the standard interior wall and ceiling lining material worldwide.

Best for
- Standard interior walls and ceilings
- Moisture-resistant board in bathrooms and utility rooms
- Fire-rated board around garages and between units
Avoid when
- Areas with direct, sustained water contact, which need tile backer board instead
Thickness matters for sound and fire, not just strength
12.5mm (1/2 inch) is the standard wall thickness; 15mm (5/8 inch) 'Type X' board offers better fire resistance and is often required on garage-to-house walls and between multi-unit dwellings.
Green or blue board isn't waterproof
Moisture-resistant board resists humidity and occasional splashing but is not a substitute for tile backer board or cement board in a direct shower spray zone.
