Paint & Finishes

Emulsion Paint

Water-based wall and ceiling paint, sold in flat, matt, silk, and satin finishes with increasing durability and sheen.

Emulsion Paint

Best for

  • Walls and ceilings in living areas
  • Low-odour, fast-drying jobs
  • Colour changes on previously painted plaster

Avoid when

  • High-moisture rooms without a specific bathroom formula
  • Surfaces needing frequent scrubbing, where a tougher finish earns its cost

Sheen level is a durability decision, not just a look

Flat and matt finishes hide wall imperfections well but mark and scuff easily. Silk and satin resist wiping and light scrubbing but show surface flaws under raking light. Kitchens, hallways, and children's rooms do better with at least a satin finish.

Coverage claims assume ideal conditions

Stated coverage is measured on a smooth, sealed, primed surface. Textured or bare walls absorb more and need more paint per coat — see the paint calculator for a realistic figure for your wall.
